Community Outreach
"12Stone Church captures the mission and significance of our call as a church to carry the favor of God as a force for good in Gwinnett County and beyond."
- Kevin Myers, Founder & Senior Pastor
At 12Stone™ Church we believe we are most like Christ when we give ourselves away to those who are under resourced or marginalized by society. Scripture clearly expresses the heart of God to turn to the poor, the sick, the immigrant, the prisoner, the widow, and the orphan. As Christ followers, therefore, we are commanded and called to serve others by giving ourselves away.
As an organizational strategy, we believe we are best able to do this when we partner with other organizations that focus on specific target areas rather than building program areas within the church. Therefore, we partner with organizations to see the body of Christ serve the community and to pursue community transformation.
Partnering with other local non-profit ministries in Gwinnett and surrounding counties, 12Stone seeks to be an agent of change and transformation. We seek to effect change that relieves suffering, overcomes oppression, and fights injustice -- all characterized by the love that transforms and shows we care about what God cares about.
We focus on three primary issues in our community:
- Poverty - Throughout scripture, God's heart for the poor was expressed over and over again. As people of faith, we believe that God provides all of our resources. By collectively gathering our resources, we're able to assist those in need of basic assistance.
- Education - In our culture today, education is essential for a quality life. Even in ancient days, the writers of the Proverbs recognized the value of wisdom and knowledge. (See Proverbs 3.) Today, many at-risk and vulnerable children simply do not have the family structure necessary to thrive in our education systems. Through support of the public school system and mentoring programs, such as Adopt A School, 12Stone seeks to help children gain a fulfilling education.
- Justice - God calls His church to seek justice and mercy. Like a city on a hill, the Church must shine light into darkness. Through our partnerships we are advocates and agents to right injustice in our society.
We are often asked "How can a non-profit become a community partner of 12Stone?" Since we strive to develop strategic partnerships focused on community transformation and personal spiritual formation, we are very strategic in our selection of community partners. Key characteristics include sound resource stewardship and effective volunteer engagement processes, since we're committed to engaging our people in service with our partners. Each fiscal year, we review all of our partnerships regarding their effectiveness and plans for the year ahead.
